First Solar Plans Middle East Office to Help Tap Regional Market

First Solar Inc., the largest maker of thin-film solar panels, plans to open an office in the United Arab Emirates this year to tap growing demand for power in the Middle East.
The company is in talks with potential partners to help win contracts and is considering opening a manufacturing plant in the region, Karim Asali, technical development manager, said today in a telephone interview from Abu Dhabi. First Solar said last month it is cutting about 30 percent of its workforce as demand in Europe slows.
