Gold may gain for the first day in four in London as the dollar’s advance paused, boosting demand for the precious metal as an alternative investment. Platinum dropped to a two-year low.

The U.S. dollar index fell for the first time in four days and the greenback was little changed against the euro. Holdings in bullion-backed exchange-traded funds rose to an all-time high of 2,360.81 metric tons yesterday, according to data tracked by Bloomberg.
