The environment committee of the European Union parliament will propose amending the draft energy efficiency directive by including a provision on witholding some carbon permits from 2013, said deputy to the parliament Bas Eickhout.
“We will have cross-party majority for this in the committee and we hope there will be enough support in the parliament as well,” Eickhout, who belongs to the Greens Party, said in an interview in Brussels. “A set-aside is necessary to prevent carbon prices falling on new energy efficiency rules.”
