Ireland’s economy expanded the most in more than three years in the first quarter as export growth offset a continued slump in consumer spending.

Gross domestic product rose 1.3 percent from the previous three months, when it fell 1.4 percent, the Central Statistics Office said in a report in Dublin today. The increase was the most since the fourth quarter of 2007 and exceeded the 0.5 percent median estimate of six analysts surveyed by Bloomberg News. From a year earlier, GDP rose 0.1 percent.
