Southern Sudanese Voted 99% to Secede From Sudan, Xinhua Says

Almost 99 percent of Southern Sudanese who cast ballots in a Jan. 9-15 referendum on independence voted for the oil-rich region to secede from Sudan, Xinhua reported, citing the commission that organized the plebiscite.
The Southern Sudan Referendum Commission said today that final results showed that 98.83 percent voted for secession, Xinhua reported, citing an announcement in Khartoum, Sudan’s capital.
