Republicans, Administration Battle Over Mortgage Reform Deadline

U.S. policy makers have become embroiled in a partisan war of words over the Treasury Department’s decision to delay a report on the future of government-owned mortgage companies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Representative Spencer Bachus, the Alabama Republican who-leads the House Financial Services Committee, said today that President Barack Obama’s Democratic administration “had no legitimate reason” for missing the report deadline imposed by the Dodd-Frank Act, which Obama signed in July.
