The U.S. Defense Department will allow gay troops discharged under the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy to apply to re-enter military service once the restriction is repealed, according to a policy memorandum.

“They will be processed as any other re-accession applicant under service policies,” according to a copy of a memorandum Clifford Stanley, undersecretary of defense for personnel and policy, sent today to service secretaries.
