Tunisian demonstrators clashed with security forces in the capital, Tunis, where the military was deployed amid an escalation of anti-government protests that began last month.

Police fired shots and used tear gas to disperse protesters on the capital’s Habib Bourguiba Avenue and surrounding streets as several demonstrations broke out. Soldiers in armored vehicles guarded government offices. Schools, universities and most shops stayed shut after an overnight curfew imposed in Greater Tunis ended at 6 a.m. The capital was put under curfew again today and will remain so until 5:30 a.m tomorrow.
