Rain in northern and central Europe melted snow protecting winter crops from cold temperatures and cold weather in India has slowed plant development, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in a report today.

Dry weather in northern Italy will aid winter-wheat development and rainfall in Spain will boost soil moisture for the grain, the USDA’s World Agriculture Outlook Board said. In India, “unseasonably cold weather” will hurt winter wheat and rapeseed, or canola, development, according to the report.
