Weekend clashes between police and demonstrators in Tunisia have led to the deaths of at least 14 civilians, in the worst violence in the North African country since unemployment protests began last month.
Eight people were killed in the towns of Thala and Kasserine, near the border with Algeria, and four civilians were killed in a third town, Regueb, on Jan. 8, the state-run Tunis Afrique Presse news agency reported today, citing an Interior Ministry statement. Two more people were later killed in Kasserine Province, it said.
