St. John’s University got 20 points from Dwight Hardy to defeat 13th-ranked Georgetown University 61-58 and start its Big East Conference basketball season 3-0 for the first time in more than a decade.
Hardy made two late free throws to help hold off Georgetown at New York’s Madison Square Garden. The victory, the first conference home win for coach Steve Lavin, comes after road victories at West Virginia and Providence. The hosts hadn’t beaten a ranked college basketball team in 14 tries before last night.
