Toshiba to Spend $1.2 Billion on Plant to Make LCDs for Apple, Nikkei Says

Toshiba Corp. will invest 100 billion yen ($1.2 billion) for a factory in Japan to supply liquid-crystal display panels for Apple Inc. iPhones, the Nikkei reported, without citing anyone.

Production at the plant, in Ishikawa prefecture, will start in the second half of 2011, the report said. Apple will pay a portion of the plant’s cost, it said.
