India’s Taurian to Invest $200 Million in Zambia Manganese Mine

Taurian Manganese Zambia Ltd., an Indian-owned company, plans to invest as much as $200 million in a manganese mine near the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, said company director Imran Merchant.

“We are planning to invest about $200 million or more at our manganese plant to be located in Mansa,” the capital of Zambia’s northern Luapula province, Merchant said in a telephone interview today. Merchant said the plan is to initially employ about 100 people. The number may grow to about 300 when the mine begins operating, he said.
