Ecuador Asks OPEC to Support Oil Tax on Importers

Ecuador’s President Rafael Correa asked members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries to support a 5 percent tax on oil sales to help curb carbon dioxide emissions.
Correa, speaking at an OPEC meeting in Quito today, said the global tax could generate $40 billion a year and should be paid by developed nations who consume the most.
