The Croatian Parliament voted to strip former Prime Minister Ivo Sanader of immunity, opening the door for the prosecutor general to detain or indict him over the abuse of power.
Sanader left the country this morning just as Prosecutor General Mladen Bajic asked lawmakers to lift his legal shield against prosecution, Interior Minister Tomislav Karamarko said. Sanader sent an unconfirmed text message to Vecernji List saying he was on a pre-planned trip and will return, the Zagreb-based newspaper reported today. Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor said police aren’t to blame for letting Sanader go abroad.
