Sudanese authorities convicted seven male models and one female makeup artist of indecent acts and fined them 200 Sudanese pounds ($84) each following a mixed fashion show, defense lawyer Adam Bakr said.

The defendants were spared a flogging, which could have been up to 100 lashes, Bakr said by phone today from the capital, Khartoum. They were convicted under article 152 of the Public Order Law, which criminalizes indecent acts in public and the wearing of indecent clothing in public, he said.
