Botswana Diamond Exports Totaled 17.2 Billion Pula By October

Diamond exports from Botswana, the world’s biggest producer of the gems, totaled 17.2 billion pula ($2.59 billion) in the 10 months through October, the Bank of Botswana said.

The shipments compared with 15.2 billion pula for the whole of 2009, according to statistics published on the Gaborone-based central bank’s website today. It didn’t provide comparative data for the 10-month period. Exports in the third quarter totaled 5.13 billion pula, compared with 4.33 billion pula a year earlier, it said.
