Cameroon’s Cocoa Exports Climbed by 6% in Week Ended Dec. 6

Cocoa shipments from Cameroon’s main port of Douala increased 6 percent during the week ended Dec. 6, according to statistics from the harbor.

Exports climbed to 8,730 metric tons from 8,240 tons a week earlier, according to information e-mailed from the port today.

The average export price was 1,366 CFA francs ($2.79) a kilogram, from 1,359 CFA francs the week before, according to Bloomberg calculations using rates published by the country’s Cocoa and Coffee Board.

A kilogram of the beans fetched 1,248 CFA Francs in the South West, one of the largest production zones, Ekona Farmers’ Cooperative President Abong Abraham said by phone.

The cooperative sold the beans at 1,250 CFA Francs in the Littoral region, 1,230 CFA Francs in the South and 1,240 CFA in the Center production zone, according to information e-mailed from the Cocoa and Coffee Information Relay Centers in Bafia, Bertoua, Nkongsamba and Ebolowa.

Cameroon is the world’s fifth-largest producer of the crop after Ivory Coast, Ghana, Indonesia and Nigeria.
