Ghana, China National Sign $6 Billion Railroad Deal, GBC Says
Ghana signed a $6 billion deal with China National Machinery Import & Export Corp. to build a railroad to the country’s northern border with Burkina Faso, Ghana Broadcasting Co. reported on its website.
Construction will begin in 2012, the state-run broadcaster said, citing Transport Minister Mike Hammah. The project will extend Ghana’s rail network from the central city of Kumasi through Tamale to the town of Paga on the Burkina Faso border.
China agreed to give Ghana $14 billion in grants and concessionary loans in September for the development of rail, road, and energy infrastructure in the West African nation.
