Slovenia Says Border Agreement With Croatia Comes Into Force
Slovenia and Croatia have exchanged diplomatic notes on an arbitration agreement meant to settle a border dispute between the two former Yugoslav republics.
The accord, signed by Prime Minister Borut Pahor and his Croatian counterpart, Jadranka Kosor, in Stockholm on Nov. 4 last year, will come into force on Monday Nov. 29, Slovenia’s Foreign Ministry said on its Web site.
Slovenia, a member of the European Union since 2004, had been stalling Croatia’s bid to join the bloc for 10 months last year before the leaders of both countries agreed to solve an almost two decades border dispute via an EU-led arbitration court.
The special tribunal, whose ruling will be binding, will be set up once Croatia signs the EU accession documents, which is likely to happen sometime next year. Croatia aims to become the 28th EU member in 2012.
