H&M Says Lanvin Collection Performing Well in China, Russia

Hennes & Mauritz AB, Europe’s second-largest clothing retailer, said a temporary collection from French designer Lanvin introduced this week has posted strong sales in countries including China and Russia.

“The collection has been very successful in all countries,” said Jenni Tapper-Hoel, a spokeswoman for the Stockholm-based company. Customer reaction has been “extraordinary” in China, Canada, the U.K., Italy and Russia, and H&M has sold out a number of items in the collection, she said.

The retailer introduced Lanvin for H&M worldwide on Nov. 23, its seventh in a series of November guest collections that began with a 2004 line by Karl Lagerfeld that helped boost monthly revenue by 24 percent. H&M will release November sales figures on Dec. 15, the same day that Inditex SA, the world’s biggest clothes retailer, reports third-quarter earnings.

Clothing and accessories from the Lanvin for H&M line appeared on EBay Inc.’s auction site hours after the retailer introduced the collection at its shops. Sellers on EBay have asked for more than double the in-store prices for some items, including evening dresses that retail for $249.

H&M prefers the sale of its clothing to be exclusively at its stores, rather than on EBay, Tapper-Hoel said. “For now we will not take any action,” she said in an e-mail.
