As many as 1.1 million pigs may have to be destroyed in the Russian region of Krasnodar after an outbreak of African swine fever, Governor Alexander Tkachev said today.

“The whole region is facing a real threat of African swine fever spread,” Tkachev said in comments on the region’s official website. “We are at risk of losing an industry, which we invested huge state and private investments in during the past several years.”
