EU Bans All Afghan Airlines, Citing Safety Concerns

The European Union banned all airlines based in Afghanistan from flying in the 27-nation bloc under the latest changes to a list of unsafe carriers, citing inadequate oversight by Afghan regulators.
Afghanistan’s air-transport authority fails to meet International Civil Aviation Organization standards, the European Commission, the EU’s regulatory arm, said today. The step expands EU air curbs on Afghanistan that had been limited to Ariana Afghan Airlines to cover carriers including Kam Air, Pamir Airways and Safi Airways.
