Rebel Madagascan military officers surrendered as the army stormed the barracks where they holed up after failing to overthrow President Andry Rajoelina, himself brought to power in a coup led by some of the mutinous soldiers.

“There is material damage but no casualties,” Defense Minister General Lucien Rakotoarimasy said by phone today after the three-day standoff. A force of about 100 overran the camp after talks broke down, Rakotoarimasy said, adding the rebels would face “military discipline.” He declined to elaborate.
