The head of the U.K.’s armed forces, General David Richards, said al-Qaeda and militant Islam can’t be defeated, the Sunday Telegraph newspaper reported, citing an interview.
Defeating Islamic militants is “unnecessary and would never be achieved,” the newspaper cited him as saying. Even so, the threat can be “contained” to allow Britons to lead secure lives, Richards said.
