Janet Yellen was sworn in today as the Federal Reserve Board’s vice chairman and Sarah Bloom Raskin joined as a governor, giving President Barack Obama a majority of appointees at the central bank.

Fed Chairman Ben S. Bernanke administered the oath of office to Yellen and Raskin in the central bank’s Board Room in Washington, the Fed said in a statement. Yellen had served as president of the San Francisco Fed since 2004; Raskin had been Maryland’s commissioner of financial regulation since 2007.
