Tropical Storm Forecast to Hit Southeast Florida Today

A tropical storm with heavy rains and winds of at least 39 miles an hour is forecast to hit the Florida Keys today before passing near the Miami area and over the state’s southeast coast on a track toward the Carolinas.
The weather system, currently a depression with winds of 35 miles (56 kilometers) an hour, is expected to strengthen after passing Cuba, the center said in a statement at 8 a.m. Miami time. Once it reaches tropical storm status, it will be called Nicole, the 14th named one of the Atlantic hurricane season.
