U.S. and Europe Face More Diverse Terror Threat, Official Says

The threat of Islamic extremism to the U.S. and Europe has grown and broadened over the past several years as more militants and sympathizers plan smaller attacks, U.S. antiterrorism officials said.
“We are all seeing increased activity by a more diverse set of groups and a more diverse set of threats,” Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano told a Senate panel today. “It’s directed at the West generally.”
