U.S. stock futures fell, signaling the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index may slip for a second day, as a lower-than-forecast reading on New York-area manufacturing cast doubt on the strength of the economic recovery.

Futures on the S&P 500 expiring in December declined 0.4 percent to 1,111.00 at 8:33 a.m. in New York. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures lost 40 points, or 0.4 percent, to 10,423.
