Portugal isn’t doing enough to avoid Greece’s fate and needs to step up efforts to overhaul the economy, a senior member of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s party said.
Portugal’s economic growth is sagging as the government lacks the resolve to make companies and wages more competitive, Michael Meister, deputy chairman and finance spokesman for Merkel’s Christian Democrats, said in an interview in Berlin. The government could make a start by investing more in education and new technologies, he said.
