Transformation within South Africa’s mining industry has been “disappointingly slow” and white men and women continue to dominate leadership positions and earn more than their black counterparts, Department of Mineral Resources Minister Susan Shabangu said.

“In the main, very little has been achieved in the transformation of the sector,” she said at the release of the Mining Charter review in Pretoria today. “Gender and racial distribution of the workforce in the sector is hardly reflective of the workforce diversification we had envisaged.”
