Verizon Wireless Names Andrew Davies as Finance Chief, Replacing Townsend

Verizon Wireless named Andrew Davies as its chief financial officer, tapping the Vodafone Group Plc veteran to run what has become the largest U.S. mobile phone carrier.

Davies will replace John Townsend on Nov. 15, Basking Ridge, New Jersey-based Verizon said in a statement. Townsend, who had been finance chief since January 2005, will become the regional financial officer for Vodafone’s European business.

Davies had previously helped lead Vodafone’s operations in India, Japan, the United Kingdom and Turkey. He joined Vodafone in September 2003 after the company acquired mobile marketing firm Singlepoint. He had also worked for General Electric Co. and Honeywell International Inc., Verizon said.

Verizon Communications Inc., which co-owns the wireless business with Vodafone, rose 38 cents to $30.84 in New York Stock Exchange composite trading at 4 p.m. The New York-based company’s stock is little changed this year.
