Support for Germany’s opposition Social Democratic Party dropped the most in almost a year after party leaders said they would oust Bundesbank board member Thilo Sarrazin over his remarks on immigrants and Jews, a poll showed.
Backing for the SPD fell 2 percentage points to 25 percent, the lowest since mid-May, according to the Forsa poll for Hamburg-based Stern magazine released today. A separate Forsa poll for Stern showed half of 1,005 voters questioned said they oppose SPD leader Sigmar Gabriel’s attempts to expel Sarrazin.
