Serena Williams pulled out of the U.S. Open tennis tournament after she walked through glass in a restaurant and tore a tendon in her right foot, USA Today quoted the top-ranked player as saying.

Williams had surgery on her foot on July 15 at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles, the newspaper reported. The procedure came a week after the 13-time Grand Slam champion received 12 stitches in one foot and six in another after walking through glass at a restaurant in Munich, Germany.
