More than 70 countries made pledges of about $320 million in aid to Pakistan’s flood victims at a two-day meeting of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The UN counted about $120 million in pledges toward its appeal for $460 million in emergency aid, and another $200 million was promised, according to Nicholas Reader, spokesman for the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. The UN is confident its appeal, now 70 percent funded, will be fully met, he said yesterday.
