Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s majority will be put to the test on Aug. 4 when parliament holds a vote on a corruption case days after the Italian premier’s key ally abandoned the ruling party.
Party leaders in the Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of parliament, today scheduled a no-confidence vote on Giacomo Caliendo, an undersecretary in the Justice Ministry who’s been targeted in a corruption probe. The vote was requested by the opposition Democratic Party, and will test whether Berlusconi still has enough support to govern.
