Canadian fighter jets were called on to repel Russian bombers approaching Canadian airspace on July 28, the Toronto Sun reported.
Two CF-18 jets intercepted two Tu-95 long-range bombers about 463 kilometers (288 miles) east of Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador, the newspaper said, citing Canadian Defense Minister Peter MacKay.
U.S. and Canadian fighter jets have intercepted between 12 and 18 Russian bombers a year since 2007, the newspaper said.
