Conscience's Cost

Even though Earth Day -- our annual time to fret over the health of the planet -- is upon us, Americans have other, less global concerns, such as the cost of their own health. A recent Harris poll says that worries over health care reform and the presidential elections have put a dent in concern for the environment, with 34 percent of adults saying they are worried about the planet -- down from 43 percent in 2009. Still, Americans spend about $175 billion a year on eco-friendly goods and services according to the Environmental Protection Agency.
