A Small Deal With China Is Trump’s Best Option
The president has had so much bad news lately that his calculus for trade negotiations may be changing.
The deal doesn’t need to be that big.

The walls are closing in on the president. With escalating hostilities in Syria and tense relations with China, not to mention impeachment and a slowing economy in the heartland, Donald Trump is desperate for some good news.
That’s exactly why he should resist his usual impulse to blow everything up and instead go small. Yes, a limited deal with China is stilla long shot, not least because it would make him look weak. But the last few days have been so bad for the president, he might now see it as a shot worth taking.
