Italy’s populist leader Luigi Di Maio, seeking to close the gap with the leading center-right coalition, said the only alternative to his party in next month’s election would be chaos.
Di Maio, 31, leader of the anti-establishment Five Star Movement, branded ex-premiers Matteo Renzi, of the ruling Democratic Party, and Silvio Berlusconi, of the center-right Forza Italia, as “irresponsible” because, he said in a Facebook post Thursday, they had tried but failed to pave the way to forming a government together.
