Since its creation in 1993, the U.K. Independence Party has had 14 leaders and acting leaders. Of those, its most famous face, Nigel Farage, has already led the party three times. Is the time right for another comeback?
Its current leader Henry Bolton, 54, has been called on by the party’s ruling executive committee to quit over the publication of racist text messages sent by his 25-year-old girlfriend and his handling of the fallout. In the texts Jo Marney said black people were ugly and Prince Harry’s fiancee Meghan Markle, whose mother is African American, would “taint” the royal family. On Monday, in the face of mounting pressure, Bolton insisted he would not step aside.
