President Donald Trump said Wednesday after a phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping that major new sanctions will be imposed on North Korea, as tensions with Pyongyang escalated after the regime’s latest intercontinental ballistic missile test.
While Trump didn’t specify whether the new sanctions would be imposed by China or the U.S., the Chinese government has much greater economic leverage over North Korean leader Kim Jong Un as the nation’s biggest trading partner.
