Hamas Says Ready for Steps to End Decade-Old Palestinian Rift

The Gaza Strip’s militant Hamas rulers, internationally isolated and their economy in shreds, said they were ready to take key steps meant to end the decade-old rift between the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

In the midst of the latest round of reconciliation talks in Egypt, the group announced that it had agreed to dismantle an administrative committee it set up earlier this year to run Gaza. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas viewed the panel as a shadow government, and a sign of Hamas’s bad faith toward reunification efforts.
