The DOGE Doubt Trade
Also the Optimum lawsuit, venture capital fraud and insider trading victims.
One widely known fact about Elon Musk is that he says a lot of stuff that isn’t true. Most famously, he has a long history of promising that Tesla Inc. is months away from rolling out fully autonomous cars. Here is the Wikipedia page “List of predictions for autonomous Tesla vehicles by Elon Musk,” which goes back to 2013. You could imagine a world in which:
In that world, you could make some easy money from Musk skepticism: He’d announce some optimistic thing, the stock would go up, you would short it, the thing would not happen, the stock would go down, and you’d make money on your short. You would have some risk on this trade, of course: If, this time, Musk was correct, the stock would go up more and you’d lose money. But if you were correct in disbelieving Musk’s claims, you’d make money.
