If there is one region where the Trump administration is leaving an indelible mark, it’s Latin America.

In less than 16 months, Donald Trump’s second government has removed Nicolás Maduro by force and turned Venezuela into an effective US protectorate. It has threatened to “take back” the Panama Canal and is reportedly preparing to move against Cuba after imposing a harsh oil blockade. It has meddled in local elections to favor US allies, driven mass deportations southward, strong-armed Mexico and sanctioned officials from democratically elected governments. And that’s before mentioning tariffs or its punitive anti-narcotics approach.
