Graham Platner Should Worry Susan Collins
A man with momentum
Photographer: Sofia Aldinio/BloombergMaine Senator Susan Collins should be worried. It seems she will not be facing fellow septuagenarian Maine Governor Janet Mills in November. Instead, after Mills suspended her campaign this week, Collins will likely face Graham Platner, a 41-year-old former Marine and oyster fisherman who has weathered an onslaught of revelations that would have sunk most candidates.
Conventional wisdom suggested that a Mills matchup would have been tougher for Collins. But the consultant class misjudged the Democratic primary and they are likely wrong about the general. Platner’s outsider, storm-the-gates story fits these times. And Collins, a DC institution, is the perfect foil.
