Ousting Swalwell Was Easy. Now Comes the Hard Part
The party decided.
Photographer: Etienne Laurent/AFP/Getty ImagesIn a California gubernatorial race that has already seen more than its share of twists and turns, Eric Swalwell just delivered another. On Sunday, the candidate and San Francisco Bay Area congressman suspended his campaign, bowing to pressure after reports that he had sexually assaulted a staffer and engaged in sexual misconduct with at least three other women.
“I am deeply sorry for mistakes in judgment I’ve made in my past,” Swalwell wrote on X. “I will fight the serious, false allegations that have been made — but that’s my fight, not a campaign’s.”
