MAGA Calling Newsom Racist? That’s Rich — But Possibly Effective

Gavin Newsom has been reveling in the attention that comes with being the early frontrunner for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination. But the California governor also seems to understand that he has work to do to convince voters that he’s more than just a slick-talking, coastal elite with progressive politics and a pretty face. To that end, he spent much of last week in the South promoting his new memoir, “Young Man in a Hurry.”

“I’ve become a caricature of myself and contributed to it,” Newsom lamented recently to The Atlantic, “as it relates to this perception of privilege and wealth that has dogged me.”
