Meta’s Manus Deal Is a Win for the US

Manus has been ahead of a curve that’s forecast to reshape how many of us work.

News that Meta Platforms Inc. will acquire Manus, a Chinese-born artificial intelligence startup that decamped to Singapore to court overseas capital and customers, landed as a surprise. The regulatory kerfuffle that followed didn’t.

But unlike last year, when US venture firm Benchmark drew scrutiny in Washington after investing in Manus’ parent, the spotlight is now coming from Beijing. Chinese officials are reviewing the transaction, which values Manus at more than $2 billion, for possible export control violations, the Financial Times reported.
