Liz Truss Survivor Has Some Advice for Britain

Jeremy Hunt is one of a select band of competent Conservative grandees — think Kenneth Clarke — who’ve come close to running the UK, but never sealed the deal. Chancellor of the Exchequer under two prime ministers, foreign secretary and the longest-serving health secretary, he failed twice to become Tory leader.

It’s hard to say whether the 59-year-old still has a future in the political top ranks. Hunt is a safe pair of hands and someone who isn’t despised by all non-Tory voters. But his nice-guy demeanor doesn’t resonate in a Conservative Party that’s fighting for life against the hard-right rabble rouser Nigel Farage.
